AN ENDURING ECOSYSTEM OF CARING, BUILDING, BELONGING, AND GROUNDING

TOTUM Living is an innovative social enterprise dedicated to the wholistic care and enduring support of Veterans and Active Duty Special Operations Forces personnel —
our compeers —  affected by service related Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD, and Operator Syndrome.

  • TOTUM Living focuses on the three leading issues affecting the lives of U.S. combat Veterans and Active Duty Special Forces personnel, their families, and communities.

  • A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a concussive injury to the brain caused by a blow, bump, or jolt to the head, or by an object penetrating the skull. It can range from mild to severe physical damage, with lasting physical and psychological effects.

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after a person has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event.

  • Operator Syndrome is a term coined to encapsulate the multitude of medical and psychological challenges faced by active duty — U.S. military Special Operation Forces (SOF) personnel.

Healing is a journey, not a destination.

TOTUM Living gives structure to our vision within a campus-based offering uniting four of today’s fastest-growing human experience segments — wholistic healthcare, business nurturing, membership clubs,
and affordable residential communities — into a purpose-driven platform of Caring, Building, Belonging, and Grounding.

  • TOTUM begins with an immersive, 30 day health, wellness, and living retreat for our compeers to confront the profound effects of TBI, PTSD, Operator Syndrome and their interrelated challenges within a wholistic inpatient approach to treatment, practice, and personal growth.

  • In concert, the TOTUM campus gives rise to an industry-focused accelerator and interdisciplinary bridge for our compeers, academics, entrepreneurs, and partners to develop talents, conduct research, innovate ideas, and promote for profit and not-for-profit ventures that support our mission.

  • TOTUM then offers after care in the form of a lifetime membership ‘club’ for our compeers to continue treatments and their newly embraced practice of wholistic care, personal growth, and camaraderie. A combination of tangible and digital spaces, TOTUM advances a shared pursuit of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing within a supportive framework of purposed living and belonging.

  • Our forth pillar is a 40 unit community of small houses — 800 to 1000 Sq ft — built for our Compeers, practitioners, researchers, and program leaders, and Veteran-led staff and their people to ground, grow, and prosper.

What’s in a name?

  • TOTUM is Latin for the whole, all together, or in totality — which is a fitting name for our all-encompassing approach to enduring health, wellness, growth, and purpose.

TOTUM also evokes the imagery of totem poles — monumental structures that tell stories, honor history, and speak to the power of purpose, and belonging.

  • Compeer is a term for a person of equal rank, status, or ability and an archaic word for a companion or associate. In using this name we forgo the stigma of patient or impersonal nature of client to express a dignity and parity that is advanced by people — and experienced by our compeers over a lifetime of TOTUM Living.

  • Total Health is founded on TOTUM Living’s practiced knowledge —  and supported belief in the treatment of the human body as an innately resilient ecosystem in search of healing and balance. Total Health considers and addresses the core, interrelated functions of mind, body, spirit, and environment to advance a holistic approach, treatment, and enduring practice of care, wellness,  and growth.

Launching in greater Austin, our scaleable and repeatable ecosystem attacks the complexity of whole-person health, whole-life journeys, and bottom-line support by breaking the entrenched paradigms of institutional and siloed care, traditional funding, and longterm support of individuals, families, and communities.
